Remodeling Services
There is an ever growing need to remodel houses. To answer this need is a wide choice of remodel services available. This does present another problem for the homeowner, though. Who can they trust to do what needs to be done? There are a few questions that can apply to any remodel service provider. These questions come in the form of a pre-contract interview and work to help the homeowner decide which remodel service to use.
Kitchen Remodel
The most common need for kitchen remodel services is to change cabinetry and counter tops. Questions should be asked to determine the experience of the contractor that comes to give an estimate. First, ask them to describe the removal of the old product. Whether it is the cabinets or the counter tops, they will have a step by step procedure that will include removal of the old product without damaging the areas around the removal sight.
Second, ask them about any chemical use and what precautions should be taken. If they are removing cabinetry, this will only apply to any laminated plastic that is attached to the cabinetry. If they are going to remove the plastic laminate from the counter top, they will be using a solvent to remove the adhesive quality of the contact cement. This requires adequate ventilation as the fumes can become dangerous in a closed environment. In addition, the fumes can have an ill effect on those in the house during the time of its use.
Third, ask about the quality of the new product. For cabinets, this will include any warranties that come from the manufacturer of the cabinets, and any guarantee they have to offer. In most cases, the remodel service provider will offer a guarantee for the installation only. If the remodel services are for the removal of the counter tops, the new tops being installed will come with warranties and guarantees that come with the materials used. However, there is the issue of installation. Ever remodel services provider will cover the installation process. This means that it covers any damages to the area around the installation site along with the damaging of purchased products.
Bathroom Remodel
The bathroom that needs remodeling will include the removal of the toilet. In cases where the toilet is in a separate area, this does not apply. However, if the toilet needs to be removed, be certain to ask the remodel services provider if there is a need for a plumber to remove the toilet. The questions referred to in the first part of this article can be used for this one as well. Asking about the removal process always demonstrates the expertise that the individual has in a given area of the remodel. They should be able to tell you about the bolts that hold the toilet to the floor and the wax ring that will need to be replaced to prevent leakage. In addition, they should offer information about how to control the water that leaks out from the bowl upon removal of the bowl.
Second, ask about the use of chemical to be used. This can include PVC glue and cleaner, silicone used for sealing, and even solvents for removing old flooring adhesive. The need for adequate ventilation is always an option. If the bathroom has no windows, then fans should be used to disperse the fumes as thin as possible.
Third, ask about the new products. How is the new toilet in comparison to the old? Does it use the same amount of water to flush? Does it require a special made toilet seat and lid? Letting the remodel services provider know that you have knowledge of the particular remodel being undertaken may save you the time and them embarrassment in the long run.
Lounge Room
The living room, or lounge room, is the area where remodel services will cover things like flooring, painting, new walls, and entertainment centers. The same three questions apply to this area of the house as well. Learning about the products that are to be the replacements of the old ones is the best action any homeowner can take.
Remember that these questions are intended to get the message to the prospective remodel services provider that you have some knowledge concerning the project. Asking them about the removal of the old products will give you confidence that the remodel services provider has the experience needed to complete the job in the required amount of time.
Be certain to do the research needed to gain important information about the use of any chemicals needed to remove substance that will hinder the installation of the new products. Again, always make sure there is a provision for adequate ventilation in the area where the remodel is taking place.
Third, be inquisitive about the new products, even you know about them. This will help in the decision making process concerning what to buy and where to get it. Will the new paint cover the old without primer? Will the sub floor create a problem with the installation of the new floor? Will a wall have to be moved for the new entertainment center to work properly? Is there adequate electricity to the new installation area?
